About the Unit

This unit was designed for my Kindergarten class that I taught for half of a semester. It was used to not only reinforce positive behaviors, but also establish intrinsic rewards in the classroom. This unit not only taught our classroom rules, but it also helped with classroom management because it held students accountable to those rules. In addition, it encouraged them to make good choices, and be proud of those choices! This unit was taught using a variety of learning styles. We read books about what it means to show respect and be kind to others, I assessed the students using formal and informal assessments, and we all used an anchor chart and sticky notes to track our progress as a class each day.

Lesson Plans and Assessments

Lesson Plans
Above are three of the lesson plans I used for this unit. While we had many more lessons during the time we did this unit, these lessons were most loved by my students, because they included reading a book. My kids loved story time, and it always helped them to have characters to refer to!

We Can Show Respect!

The video above was our very last assessment and project for the unit. After learning about how to show respect, I asked each student individually a way that they can show respect. We then put what they said on a thought bubble, and had each student take a picture next to the way they said that they can show respect. I then turned this into the video above, and we had a "Movie Day" where the students got to watch the video! This was a fun way to wrap up my time student teaching, and the kids LOVED seeing themselves on the "big screen".
